Hand Built Occasional Tables
One-Off Pieces of Hand Built Occasional Tables
When asked to design and make some bespoke occasional tables for my client, we had already scoured the market to find some which met his requirements exactly.
My client had been looking for some occasional tables comprising a large coffee table which was to sit in the center of his lounge under a stunning chandelier, 2 lamp tables with a drawer and 2 side tables to sit near the sofas in the lounge.
Bearing in mind my clients brief with regards to sizes, I had pretty much a blank canvas to work from, so putting pencil to paper I began sketching out some ideas for some hand built occasional tables, using Oak and Walnut, a combination of wood I find works great together!
Having confirmed the initial sketches and been presented with samples of the proposed materials, we set about making the occasional tables with solid Walnut with a solid Oak inlay and the centre sections are Louro Preto veneer… part of the fun was making these “sexy legs” for all the tables, showing off a gentle curve and allowing the colours and wood grain of the beautiful walnut to full effect.
Using the Louro Preto Inset Veneer for the table centres enabled us to show off the grains, cut into a segmented effect for the centre of all the table tops gave massive impact on the hand built occasional tables. Having seen the process of my idea finally coming to life, I can’t tell you the excitement it gave me to see these table centres being made in the workshop! Even without the lacquer and with their matte, natural state, you can still appreciate the effort made by our joiners to make these unique pieces of furniture.
All of our bespoke furniture is carefully hand made locally in Lincolnshire to traditional methods, as leading Interior Designers in Lincolnshire, we are often requested to design, make and install bespoke furniture, the majority of which is large items such as hand built kitchens, bedrooms and media units, but being asked to design and make one-off smaller pieces is a real pleasure.
Once complete, the custom built tables were lacquered in high gloss to provide a “mirror finish” to the furniture, this truly brings out the colours in the Walnut and Oak to stunning effect.
The “Drum” style lamp tables were designed and made to accommodate my clients existing lamps, we made drawers to sit inside the tables, with small brass knobs the warm colour metal works well within the room and sits perfectly with the Oak and Walnut.
Side tables echoing the same design of the lamp tables sit neatly against my clients existing sofas.
The large coffee table has been designed to sit under a chandelier in the centre of the room, light reflects off the high gloss finish, and the table also has a shelf sitting under, making it slightly different from the side tables. The grains in the wood truly come to life in this piece of furniture!
Our final installment for the set of hand built occasional tables is this smart console table for my clients entrance hall, made from solid Oak with a bronze glass centre, it echoes the furniture we designed and built for his media unit. With high ceilings and a large entrance, this piece of furniture sits under a favourite piece of art.
